Not that old Knucklehead. Anyway, uh yeah, so we're covering the sheep detectives. That's a film that came out just a couple months ago at this point. It was probably like a month and a half ago that it came out, maybe two. And it's on Amazon, and uh it is now the number one movie on Amazon Prime for the time being, which is pretty cool. People like the sheep, it gets them in the feels. Uh, we're gonna talk all about like what we liked, disliked about the movie, and perhaps touch a little bit on actual real life sheep lore, because I had to look up a couple things to see if they actually existed in the real world. Like, can sheep delete their memories? They cannot. Oh. Actually, I don't know. I did not look that one up, but I I can't imagine that's something that they can just willingly do en masse.

What We’ve Been Watching And Reading

movie. Before we jump into any sheep detecting, let's talk a little bit about what the heck we've been up to this past week. I'll start this one off. I am at long last on the eighth and final, for now, book of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. I'm taking this one a little bit slower, just because it is the last one for who knows how long. Although the the author has been pumping these out really fast. You know, they the first one came out in 2020, and he's now just released eight books, and there's gonna be, I think, two more total. So I will very shortly be caught up, and I am kind of scared about that prospect. I I I spoke about that a little bit in the chat with you guys earlier. Just uh I'm scared of not knowing what comes next because I didn't have that problem the past seven books. But anyway, uh yeah, I'm taking this one a little bit slower. I'm pretty much only listening like on my commutes to work and not during work. Um I just want to take savor it a little bit longer. Other than that, we have finished season four of Only Murders in the Buildings. Occasionally, the show is fantastic, and the non-occasional parts are good, they're good. But like occasionally the show gen reaches peaks where I'm like, wow, that's really great, or wow, that's great cinematography. But ultimately, I think the the joy of the show comes from the guest actors that populate the series every now and then, like Meryl Streep. Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd had a big role in the past two seasons. Sting happened just popped up in the first season. Just a bunch of like really, really stupid, like one-off things. And yeah, I it's a really fun show.

Yeah, I'm really enjoying it. One thing that I really like about the show is the interior design choices. Like every apartment that you go into in this building has incredible wallpaper. I don't know if like like the contractors in the building had a deal, they had some kind of wallpaper business. Uh everybody has fantastic wallpaper, and I want in.

Oh yeah, so I've been watching the I just yesterday watched the two episodes of House of the Dragon. I'm not like in love with this season. I just as a pregnant lady, first season, a lot of disrespect to the moms. The moms took a lot of hits. Two moms in the show greatly disrespected, and there were consequences. And then the next episode, there's like this deadbeat dad who just wasn't the best dad ever, and then like the kids are like respecting the hell out of him. I don't know. I feel like it's dad propaganda. I feel like House of the Dragons turning into dad propaganda, and as a as an almost mom, not loving that.

And I actually do want to make a brief mention about that because you like two people, uh, you, Jen, and uh Rich brought it up separately. What is the daddy tax? And I had mentioned that it's something you don't need to know, it's not brought up ever again. That's a lie. At the end of book seven, it's brought up again, and it's meaningless. It it is a it is genuinely a meaningless joke, but the way that it's brought up is very funny. So just a correction, just a daddy tax correction. Anthony, what have you been up to, my friend?

I don't know if those are Hoopley or not, and I would just be like, Netherlands, and I was right on how many uh like I only got one role.

Yeah, so like it was actually amazing because we were in a work Zoom call essentially, and like I could see my other coworker's face, but like Jen didn't. So I'm like, How about you predict these games? And like she'd been talking about like predicting other games, and I was like, Well, we can't verify your predictions because those games haven't happened. But just to like see, you know, see if I could keep it going, I was like, eh, you know what? So let me ask you the knockout, make some predictions. And Emily goes, our coworker goes, wait a minute, or she goes to go, wait a minute, I'm like, shh. And uh yeah, no, uh Jen's an idiot savant here. So I think you should get Kelshi. I think you should get Poly Market, and I think that if you have any money that people have given you guys because the baby's coming, take it and put it on the World Cup games. I think this is a great idea. Jen has a nose for this, and I want to sit back and watch you guys win. So I would even borrow money off of anyone that lives near you and just bet money on anything that Jen says.

Supergirl Reactions And World Cup Predictions

Yeah, no well, I tried. Uh so I I did I started reading I've read about uh I don't know, maybe like a third-ish or half of the second book of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. So I'm just I I have all of them up on queue, so I have them all ready in my iPad. Uh unfortunately I did per recently was gifted uh the Lego Batman game and it has uh transformed my life. I I love it so much. It's exactly so I just to remind you guys, I'm off for the summer, I'm a teacher, so I almost always get myself a game that I can enjoy, and then I almost always beat it within the first week and a half of summer, so that I have nothing else to do. But like Anthony said, I'm also enjoying the World Cup, which is nice because uh wow, the Mets are depressing. I can't say anything else about it. But um in in positive news, I'll share this little geek fact before we move on to our sheep detectives. We uh Charlie is going to his first concert on July 11th at the as my wife calls it, the USB arena, but I have to remind her that it's not a universal service bus, but it's actually a um the US yeah, UBS Arena in Long Island. UBS, it's a bank. We're gonna see none other than Weird Al Yankovic.

But not more excited than I am. No, that's a lie. I mean that's just a segue. I was gonna say, not more excited than I am to talk about sheep detectives.

Oh, I do have one question for you, Rich, just to keep um your interests alive a little bit longer. The Batman Lego game, what is this story? Like, what is it adapting, or is it an entirely new story?

So it's it's everything from the movies. So they start with him as a little kid, then they have him do the Dark Knight, like the the Dark Knight series, where he starts the training, but then you kind of pivot and you're in Gotham, and instead of like Bane happening just yet, you um you encounter the Riddler, and then you counter the Joker, which is like chapter two, and that's the classic Jack Nicholson Joker, because it's supposed to be earlier on in his career. So you start without having Robin, and you know, you meet Catwoman, and then eventually, uh like I'm in chapter I think three now, where the you know the penguins kicking around now. I think uh Harvey Dent has now gone fully two-faced. So i uh they just introduced um what's her name? Poison Ivy. It's just they're combining the movie, it's a tapestry of the movies, and it's just doing it so well. And it's really more adult than any of things not in a crude way, I don't mean that at all. But I think that it's a little bit more like the m the game is not just made for kids. This game is made for a 40-year-old man. Like it is, it's made for me. It they the so many of the little tiny Easter eggs, even like there's a passage where you have to go through and you know there's a little like writing over the the entranceway and it says Max Headroom. And like I knew that was a reference to the Max Headroom, you know, like like and and it's just those little tiny things that this is um I have long said that the Lego series I think is probably for me the one of the some of the most complete video games in terms of being able to mix fun and then mix the the member berries of the old franchises, and this might be their best work ever.

Although it's weird because he only attacks you with yellow mustard, and if I were a super villain named Condiment Man, I'm using that like crazy spicy mustard, you know what I'm saying?

The talking sheep movie. It was uh it was pretty good. I I I did enjoy it. I don't know if I would have seen it in the theater, but I don't think that but not that's not to say that it's a bad movie, it's just more so a preference, I think. But you know, being able to kind of like sit here and enjoy it at the house was nice, you know. It it it does have like even though it's like a a mystery movie about uh, you know, like sheep, you know, they're they're solving a mystery, there's something weirdly cozy about it, and I I don't I don't know if it's the the sheep, but you know, just being able to relax at your house and watch it like really like maximize those vibes.

There's the other shepherd, like the other sheep shepherd, is one of the companions of the 13th Doctor in Doctor Who.

And we get to the part where they talk about the winter lamb, and they said something like the the winter lambs are never loved, or anything like that. And then she whispered, she like turns to me and she goes, That's you, and I'm like, I'm like, What the hell? I'm just I kind of like look over with like my side eye, just like hoping she's not talking to me, but like I saw her turn to me and say that, and then like a couple minutes later, I hear like a whimpering coming from the bag next to me. This lady brought like a tiny dog in a bag, and it was just like the most behaved dog in a in a two-hour movie I've ever seen.

Obviously, they're not going to learn like murder mystery mechanics. But I I think that's part of the cozy aspect, Anthony, that you were mentioning. It's just like when he was reading the murder mysteries to them like on a nightly basis, the fact that they would all just kind of like sit down at the end of the day and you know relax and like listen to their their owner, their shepherd, read a little bit. I thought that was very wholesome.

Yes, right now I will say that the only thing part of this movie that I found infuriating was that how easy it is to get any group of animals to listen to what you're reading, because that was just wild to me. Your wife is a teacher, she knows this.

We can read to them and they will be like I just think like I didn't think of this because I feel like with my pets, they're really good at reading our routines. And so, like, when we sit down on the couch, they come and sit down next to us, and like we all just chill and watch the stuff. That's more what I was thinking. Or like when my cat can tell when we're washing up to go to bed, and he starts laying his little fake mouse toys by the stairs so we can play fetch before he goes to bed. So he'll see that I'm brushing my teeth, and he's like, Okay, I'm gonna line up my mice so that she can't not play fetch with me.

So it's kind of like animals know root they learn routines, and I think that is pretty much what the movies just Yeah, like I don't like I see what you're saying, because like if I read every night, I know my dog would probably come and sit near me, but I would know she's not listening at all. But I think that's what makes animals so special in comparison to humans. If humans kind of like students are going to be in a room, they want to know what am I getting out of this experience? What's the grade that I'm going to be earning? Or is this going to benefit me on some kind of test? Like the students are kind of good at perceiving what is valuable to them and what is invaluable. And so for teachers, it's frustrating because you're trying to get them to listen to things that if they deem it not worth their time, it's really hard to get through to them. Whereas with pets, like in animals, they just want to spend time with you. Even if they're not getting anything, like that they're just so easy to please. And the thing that they're gleaning from the situation is just quality time together, which is really like cozy and comforting.

Like honestly, like I kudos to the movie because I think that when you're able to ascertain who the you know the final villain is, whatever, I think that means that the writing was good. Or the butcher, you know, and then I w I wasn't really sold on the daughter, and then like and then when she gets arrested with a lot more time in the film, I was like, Yeah, well, she's 100%. Like, you know, I like I knew for a fact then. I was like, Yeah, it's definitely not her. I like to be honest with you, the the reporter or the the son wasn't he wasn't around all the time, so it was easy to kind of like forget him a little bit.

Like it it just it it didn't seem like convincing. I was like, hmm, there's something off. But I mean it it didn't end up being her her only connection to it was the fact that like she got into contact with the son, that's it. But yeah, no, it was it was pretty good. I like it when um they do that and I have a hard time figuring it out, you know, when when they like finally show everything, it's like oh okay, that you know, that's good. Um they should have they could have named this movie Sheeps Out because like it felt like knives out but with sheep.

I don't know why, I don't really care to be like, I figured it out. But surprisingly, with this movie, I did figure it out. I was very shocked. I was watching it with my brother and his girlfriend in Dakota, and my brother's girlfriend leaned over about halfway through the movie and was like, Who do you think it is? And I said, I think it's his son. They have there is another child, it's the son. So then if you do a process of elimination, who is the other kid who could be this girl's brother, like twin brother? And that just kind of left me with that guy. And I said it to be honest, not really thinking that I was even right. I was just like, I don't know, I think it's probably that guy because he's the son and he would get the 30 mil. But yeah, surprisingly, shockingly, for once, I was correct.

Shockingly. I was trying to I was I was very adamantly trying to solve another mystery when we were watching this movie. Not the lady next to me. I was trying to figure out when the movie takes place because you know, this was I'm still like collecting dates for my long live the the timeline project, and you know, it's a very easy reconstruction, like starts on a Sunday, he goes, uh, he barges into the church, the next day is when the the kids come to you know meet him at night, he dies. The third day is the town founds finds out, blah blah blah. So I was like, okay, so long as they give me one date, like when when does he die? When is she imprisoned? Or when do they catch the the actual villain? Then I can like reconstruct the entire timeline from there. Bro, there are no dates that are usable in this. I I can't figure out a year. I I even like they actually have like a like a prisoner form, like a for the prisoner being transported for Rebecca that they show briefly. And I took a picture of it today, and everything else is super legible, but date of birth is literal chicken scratch. It's it is there's not a single discernible number in that it's it's it's hold on, I want to see if I can show you guys. Oh man.

And so I think it's like really cool that they used sheep, you know, some uh you know, animal that people widely think that are dumb. Yeah, so I think that that was a cool inclusion, and just the the different things that they did throughout the movie to help steer the cop in the right direction. I thought that was pretty cool.

I love how the cop of all like the fool of the movie was being guided by these like kind of scary sheep. Imagine you just you're having coffee in in your workplace, and you just see uh you know, like this ginger sheep just staring you down from across the street, just occasionally he picked it up too.

He started getting paranoid. Yeah, no, I thought that was I thought it was really charming. I also really like the CGI. I thought it was really well done CGI creatures. I think that was really really computer generated images. Um, like the the sheep uh in this movie were CGI.

Final thoughts. I think that it was uh quite a yarn. I mean, I liked how they had to unravel the mystery, and um it was uh sheer entertainment along the way. No, I aside from my sheep and good time. My sheep my sheep uh jokes. I think that you should all go see it. That's a female sheep. But no, um I'm gonna stop with the puns. I actually liked it. It's not the type of movie that I would normally uh go see in the theaters, but it did have a lot of babe vibes, not like attractive women, but like pigs. So I I did enjoy that aspect to it. I uh I love the voice actors, I love when they stack the cast. I mean, Patrick Stewart is easily recognizable all the time. Brett I don't know his real name, sorry guy, but from uh Ted Lasso. I mean it was great.
